Because kavalactones remain largely aggregated or phase-separated in water, gastrointestinal absorption is governed by slow dissolution kinetics rather than by transport across the intestinal epithelium. This leads to reduced and erratic bioavailability, even when nominal doses are similar. In practice, much of the administered kavalactone fraction may pass through the system without being efficiently absorbed, resulting in low bioavalability.
Water-Soluble Kava: Rapid and Complete Absorption

By dispersing kavalactones into nanoscale droplets that are fully compatible with water, the effective surface area available for absorption increases dramatically.
